Department of Math and Science:

Division of Curriculum Research and Development has following major works: Development of curriculum, syllabus and textbooks based on the National Curriculum Frameworks for all the stages (including pre-primary, elementary, secondary and senior-secondary) of school education and across the subject areas. Provide core subject matter related assistance for material development and teacher training (pre-service and in-service) for all school education initiatives in the State including pre-primary, elementary, secondary and senior-secondary education (including vocational stream). Lead the design and delivery of all state-wide in-service teacher training programmes, in coordination with School Education department, Samagra Shiksha, DIETs etc. Facilitate DIETs for planning and delivering Local need-based in-service teacher development programmes. Constantly strive for pedagogical excellence by innovating, as well as adapting from national and international experiences, effective approaches for teacher education and school education. Carry out action-research projects in the fields of teacher education and school education striving to be rigorous, relevant and innovative. Collaborate with other teacher-education institutions (CTEs, IASEs) and universities for the same. Through the Department of Inclusive Education, provide support for effective mainstreaming of children with special needs and supporting inclusive pedagogies in schools. The focus areas would be to work on understanding, analyzing and addressing intersectional issues arising due to caste, gender, religious inequities, right from the pre-primary till senior-secondary level. Under the Division of Curriculum Research and Development, the Department of Math and Science plays a key role to popularize Mathematics and Science in the State by conducting seminars and science exhibitions at various levels. The department is meant for extending resource support to different institutions like DIETs and Schools. The department has got a pivotal role in propagating scientific values, scientific attitudes and scientific temper, particularly among the teachers and students and the community at large.

Aims and objectives:

1. To organize in-service training for Physical Science teachers to enrich the subjects.
2. To organize training for Physical Science teachers in doing lab experiments.
3. provide ideas and information to keep the teachers abreast of the latest developments in the field of science and maths.
4. To undertake studies, investigations, and surveys relating to science matters on the appraisal of education programs.
5. To undertake publication of modules, enrichment material, lab manual and book of projects etc.

1. Training (Induction, capacity building, LO-based Awareness) in Math, EVS, Science, Physics Chemistry and Biology, Adolescent Education and Environment Education.
2. Content development in Math, EVS, Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (monthly distribution of syllabus, competency, modules, MAT, NTSE, NMMS papers, Question booklets, Adolescent Education programs, etc.).
3. Training program for Primary & Secondary School teachers.
4. Making of model Question sets.
5. Organization of District, State Science Seminars.
6. Research studies.
7. Reference book development.
8. To arrange in-service training for different categories of teachers, inspecting officers and teacher-educators, and coordinate the work of other agencies operating at the state level.
9. Development of Mathematics Laboratory
10. Collaboration with SSA in development of teacher modules and self-instructional materials.
11. Field visits to the schools, DIETs and CTEs and providing academic support.

Social Science is one of the core subjects in the school curriculum and plays a vital role in developing social wisdom among the individuals. It includes issues relating to physical and cultural components of man’s environment and aims at producing enlightened citizens required of a democratic society. In this context the Department of Social Sciences Education extends its support in strengthening social studies education in school system

The main Functions of the Department are:

1. Refining and reframing the environmental studies curriculum for Primary level and social studies curriculum for Upper primary school level according to NEP 2020 and in the context of Jharkhand.
2. Providing training to the social studies teachers and teacher educators to update their knowledge and improve their professional skills.
3. Undertaking research in the areas of Social Science Education on the issues relating to social studies teachers.
4. Developing self-learning materials on different concepts and new areas included in the social studies curriculum for the use of social studies teachers and teacher educators.
5. Developing workbooks and question banks relating to Social Studies for the use of Students.
6. Organizing Social Studies clubs for the professional development of social studies teachers.

Language in education is the basis for learning and development of children during the formative years of school. It is equally important for learning in general and learning the content subjects in particular in later years. The department works for the development of model syllabi and teaching-learning materials in languages for pre-primary, primary, upper primary, secondary stages. The aim of the Department of Languages ​​is to use the principles of language-learning to make children an independent learner and to shape them as the best citizens. The Department of Languages ​​works to promote language education through the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as well as professional development of teachers and research in language education at all stages of schooling. The department lays emphasis on the orientation of the teachers to empower them. It also deals with innovative strategies and emerging trends in language education.

The Department of Languages mainly works on:

1. India's linguistic diversity presents complex challenges as well as opportunities.
2. Use of children's mother tongue/home language as a medium of learning in schools
3. The Tribhasha Sutra is an attempt to address the challenges and opportunities of the linguistic situation in India. It is a strategy that serves as the base for learning more languages.
4. Keeping in mind the tribal and regional languages ​​in the state, the department works for Hindi, Urdu as the medium of instruction. Apart from this, Sanskrit can also be studied as a language.
5. The department has prepared textbooks for primary classes in five tribal and two regional languages ​​of the state.

The Department of Commerce Studies came into existence in Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) on 28th August 2020 with the digital adaptivity for the Covid-19 pandemic. Department of Commerce Studies is running separately under the Division of Curriculum Research and Development of JCERT. The department is situated on a spacious green campus. It has a panoramic ambiance and picturesque landscape which is ideally suited for a modern educational campus. The Department of Commerce Studies follows the NCERT Curriculum. It is one of the apex departments in JCERT, playing a vital role in serving the society by shaping the careers of the students keeping in view the ever-changing Socio-Economic Environment. It aims at facilitating the adolescent children of Class 9 to Class 12   for acquiring knowledge about business skills and entrepreneurship abilities. In the present digital era, the department is continuously working to bridge the learning gap of learners resulting due to the pandemic by creating and disseminating useful e-contents to the commerce students through WhatsApp groups, conducting online tests, preparing model question papers, developing content for "Hamara Radio Hamari Pathsala" program, etc. It organizes orientation programmes for faculties and always tries to smoothen commerce education in the state of Jharkhand. Other responsibilities such as designing the syllabus, developing TNA questionnaire, preparing the academic calendar, lesson plans, etc. are taken care of by the department from time to time. The department of commerce studies will always be committed to facilitating the students and teachers of commerce stream with quality education in the upcoming years.

The most obvious benefit of art education is that it encourages children to learn things through creativity that are usually taught in school. Instead of taking the facts as mere information, they can explore their interests and engage in what excites them the most. In addition, the arts have a wide range of uses and effects on their students. It improves motor skills, simple things like mastering paint brushes or using crayons and pencils help develop fine motor skills, especially in young children. Studying the arts not only helps improve academic performance through creativity, but it also improves learning in the literary field, along with math and science. Art education is integral in developing fundamental, yet abstract components of human knowledge and skill in terms of ideas, innovation and team-spirit. Therefore, it is necessary to include art in teaching-learning process. Regular engagement and education in the arts has to be imbibed in the school curriculum for it to have an effect on the students.

Government of Jharkhand is committed to enable growth of the state through skilling the youth. A skilled and high productivity manpower base is a critical enabler in the growth of manufacturing, services and agriculture. It is also a critical intervention to harness the potential of ‘Demographic Dividend’ in a youthful state like Jharkhand. To give impetus to growth with scale, speed and standard, Government of Jharkhand has framed a 5 years Skills Policy for the state of Jharkhand - ‘Jharkhand Skills Policy 2018’. Jharkhand is among the fastest growing economies in the country characterized by a young demography. The state is home for 57% population belonging to working age group (15-59 years) and around 70% below 35 years of age. There is a large chunk of population in the age group of 5-14 years which will become part of the labour force during the period 2011-2021. The estimation is around 82.42Lacs people to join the work force in this period. A large section of the population in Jharkhand even now does not engage in higher education. These include the illiterate population, dropouts from primary to higher secondary education and also include section of population which even after completion of education is not able to engage in gainful employment owing to deficiency of domain and work skills. Thus, the scope of skill development intervention should encompass both the repair and prepare jobs. Starting with 53 schools in the FY 2015-16, currently the CSS-VSE project is being implemented in 490 Jharkhand Government schools, each school with two trades (except KGBV sanctioned in 2021-2022 which have single trade only) with the goal to make students employable by developing employability skills when they complete senior secondary education (level 2, class 12th) Currently the scheme is being implemented by a state level implementation team headed by the Program Officer/State Component In charge -Vocational Education with consultant (PMU members) from Lend-a-Hand-India, allied units viz-Administration, Finance and MIS. Similarly, at District level, services of Additional District Program Officers (ADPOs) and Assistant Program Officers (APOs) were utilised for supervision and monitoring. State Implementation unit has also organised consultation program with the School Principals, District Project Coordinators and District Program Officers for larger engagement and seamless implementation of the scheme.
