DIVISION OF TEACHER EDUCATION

Work of the Division of Teacher Education:

Lead curriculum development for pre-service teacher education courses at the elementary stage in the state focussing on pedagogical aspects. Provide core subject matter related assistance for material development and academic support to DIET faculty for Foundation courses of pre-service teacher education - philosophy, sociology, psychology Develop and coordinate the implementation of the annual work plan for all in-service teacher trainings in the State in collaboration with School Education Deptt., SSA, RMSA, DIETs, etc. Determine training needs of Heads of the Schools (HoS) and other Education Administrators across the state and prepare relevant content (in collaboration with DIETs) and facilitate trainings through national and international partner institutions. In consultation with DoE and DIETs, determine training needs and support content creation and training for all stakeholders involved in school management, including cluster and block officers, teacher development coordinators in schools, School Management Committees etc Responsible for rolling out and monitoring of all national programmes related to comprehensive school management and evaluation (eg, Shaala Siddhi) Our objective is to ensure that teachers are given the highest quality training in content, pedagogy, and practice and also to work towards shifting from the current one-year or two-year teacher training courses to a four-year integrated Bachelor’s Degree as the minimum qualification for all schools’ teachers. Teacher education is truly important in creating a pool of teachers that will mould the next generation. To achieve our goals, we have prepared a plan for educating our in-service teachers and in-service teacher educators, both in online and face-to-face mode. For the year 2022-23, first, we have planned a TNA programme which will identify the different needs of teachers in curriculum area. Teachers’ needs will be identified first. Teachers will be trained as per their needs. This TNA will be conducted in every three years. ( in collaboration with UNICEF). The training will be conducted at three different levels, viz. Grade-1, at the DIET level, Grade-2, at the regional level, and Grade-3, at the state level. After the completion of TNA, we have a plan of imparting refresher courses on the pedagogy section which every teacher has to undergo.

These areas include;

1. Toy-based pedagogy. (primary teachers)
2. Training on ECCE with reference to nep 2020. ( primary teachers)
3. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach.
4. Use of technology in classrooms.
5. Pedagogy of mathematics/environmental studies/language/English language.
6. Mental health and well-being.
7. Soft skills enhancement (21st-century skills, and leadership skills development.)
8. Lesson plan preparation of Los and PLOs- with reference to NEP2020.

Good teachers are prepared and developed by good teacher educators. Faculty of teacher education must be experts in diverse fields. So, we have also a plan for imparting in-service training for teacher educators. For this, we have strengthened the no. of faculty in DIETS. Every DIET has been provided with additional faculty, considering their experience in the field and qualifications. Since pandemic times we have been providing online education for in-service teachers on various topics covering- areas like pedagogy, skills, and research, on the Diksha platform built especially for education by the government of India. In our other works, presently we are providing coaching for NTSE at the state level. Students selected from all across the state have been receiving guidance from experienced and skilled teachers at the JCERT campus itself.
